How things are going

Sun Apr 5, 2009, 2:45 PM
My job is over. It lasted three more months but it's finally over, sorry for not updating the journal earlier. I must say I'm relieved knowing that I'll be alive next weekend for sure.

Ok, now, I'm looking for another job so, if you know someone looking for a programmer of an illustrator near Bergamo, feel free to pm me.

Regarding my deviations, I konw I haven't been submitting anything in months but that's because I'm working on a bigger piece that takes lots ot time. It's a map for Team Fortress 2 named pl_Orobic and it's currently in beta. I'll post some screens when it's ready.

But! As long as I don't find a job I've got a lot of free time that I'm spending learning flash and php. I'd like to keep practicing in Photoshop and Illustrator but I didn't have a non-female idea lately (and this proves I'm not gay, you damn internet flamers) so if you want me to draw somenting for you now it's the time! (I think you wouldn't dislike me still drawing girls, am I wrong?)

Last, I'm going to delete all the "Gamers Inn" deviations from Da. I was going to update them later but then I decided not to post them at all. If you want to keep reading my regular comic head over to [link]

It's almost finished

Tue Dec 9, 2008, 3:23 AM
Yep, my job is almost to its end. My employment contract ends on December the 31st and it's up to my boss to choose to renew it or let me go. Honestly, there's a high chance I'll have to leave but the weird part is that I don't know if it's good or it's bad.

In the case I leave:

Bright sides:
- I won't have to lie to myself. My boss told me I have to care for this firm and I need to like the work I do. WTF man? Very few lucky people like their job but what about those who doesn't? Should they all quit their jobs and go after their dreams? I doubt they would do it with a wife and/or children to feed. The do their job anyway so what's wrong if I don't like mine? If I had to stay I 'd have to smile like an ass every day and cheer everyone up because I like my work and I'm helping firms Improve production. And that's a bullshit, if you're not familiar with sarcasm.
- I won't have to risk my life any more travelling with my Indianapolis-experienced boss. Really, I was near death 3 times in 21 months! Is it that hard to slow down in the fog or when it's raining on hairpin turns.
- No more travels (hence, better comics). Knowing you'll be home every evening is a huge help, and waking up at the same time every day too.

Dark sides:
- I'll have to find another job, and this isn't easy. We're in a recession and nobody is willing to take an apprentice in any job. They always ask for 2-years experience (note: they measure experience in years, not based on what you can actually do) if not 5 and I worked here for 21 months. I know of older friends finding a job these days but I don't know what kind of job it is and looks like the spend their days behind a desk doing silly things. I'd like to find something in advertising, design, printing etc but looks like they don't like my portfolio.

In the case I stay:

Bright sides:
- Esteem. Looks like my parents like to see me busy and my friends too. Obviosly, nobody likes idlers, but if I had the time to draw from morning to evening things would be different. Like yesterday. I drew Hellbaby, I drew half of the comic, I tidied up the house and did the dishes, played Half Life 2 for just 1:30 and brawl for 1:00. If I had a whole day to draw and create I could do more than that. Sadly, this doesn't repay me. Should I open a paypal donation account for my comic?
- Income. Actually, what I earn is excessive for my needs (1100€ when I buy one game every three months? Yes, I know I should buy a 360 too, shut up!) but I'm used to care for the future and now I have a decent saving on my bank account.
- Cheap technology. I bought most of the technology I have in my room from the office at very low prices compared to those in the malls (including my tablet). Currently, I don't need anything but who knows...

Dark sides:
- Grin and bear. As stated before, I should accept I don't like this job and lie every time I'm asked if I like my life.
- Next time I travel I could die. If I have a car accident and I survive I swear I'll quit this job.
- It's frustrating never feeling gratified for what you do.
- I couldn't pal up with any of my colleagues. We all speak of different things. And I alwais end up looking like the sole idiot not interested in cars but in consoles. This doesn't help me when thinking of new comics. I always have good ideas when I'm alone or I speak with my friends through msn.

Now I'm just waiting for my boss to let me know. I previosuly told him I'd like to work here next year to but he had to consult with the other two partners. The problem is that I felt very bad for saying that. I lied to myself like I never did before just because I care more of what the others see of me instead of myself, unlike I ever stated. I'm pitiful. i'm pitiful, it's true *takes of shirt*. In my opinion, they won't keep me. The reason is that they don't need me as there's another person that can do my work (poor guy. He'll be hyperbusy) and I don't need them because I'v got my parents covering my back. If I had a family on my back they'd think twice before firing me but I'm not sure of that either, considering the economy.

Do I suck?

Tue Jul 29, 2008, 12:49 AM
I was wondering... do you guys think I suck?
I mean, I can't digital paint, I can't draw backgrounds and I can't use vectors so basically I can't do anything besides drawing toon-characters, cel-shading, rendering and using filters. I don't know, looks like I just learned to draw the cheapest crap around here. Everytime I start a new drawing I say to myself "you should totally paint this" but I know it would look like crap and nobody wants that, isn't it? I tried painting many times but it always ends looking plain, gummy or still cel-shaded.
Should I start painting like crap or continue my cel-shading madness?
